Course Overview

The curriculum covers the basics of financial literacy from both the micro (personal) level to the macro (societal) level. The course includes principles, concepts and terminology on the following topics: economic thinking, money, assets and liabilities, business ownership, financial instruments (stocks and bonds, mutual funds, etc.), banking, interest rates, taxes, insurance, retirement funding, mortgages and home ownership, savings. Students will develop spending and budget sheets and will manage a stock portfolio on the Virtual Stock Exchange (VSE). There will be a brief presentation by each student in the final days.

Evaluate the value of a stock, bond, or mutual fund

Galit Eizman

Galit Eizman is Research Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Economic Department of Harvard University since the year of 2010, researching topics of higher education, public policy, public finance and economic growth. Currently Galit is an Economics Professor at Brandeis university, teaching courses of Econometrics, International trade, Public Sector Economics and Public Speaking (Oral Communication) for Economists. Galit was also teaching microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics at Harvard Economics Department and Harvard Kennedy School. She had positions as a visiting professor at Yale University, Tufts university, Jerusalem College of Technology (Tenure position), Bar IIan University, and the University of International Relations (UIR) in Beijing, China. Galit also taught for several years at the Summerfuel program for pre-college students at Harvard and Tufts universities. Galit completed her post-doc studies at Harvard University, studied her PhD and MA studies in Economics at Bar IIan University and her BA in Economics and Education
