Course Overview

An introduction to developmental psychology, this course explores the different stages of human life- Prenatal, Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, Adulthood- and the biological, psychological and social changes occurring in individuals during them. Topics include: theories of development, genetics and development, birth and the neonate, cognitive and brain development, early experience, attachment, motor and language development, social, sex roles and moral development, aging and death.

Mary Beth Medvide, Ph.D., MA

Mary Beth Medvide is an assistant professor of psychology at Suffolk University in Boston, MA. She earned a PhD in counseling psychology from Boston College and studied psychology as an undergraduate at Lehigh University. Currently, she teaches courses on child and adolescent development, psychopathology, and multiculturalism. Mary Beth conducts research on work-based learning and how to help adolescents to be successful after they graduate from high school. She also works as a psychotherapist with children and adolescents.
